Ouran Private Academy offers all levels of education, from preschool through college; its unofficial but tacitly followed motto is to prioritize individual merit over family background. The interior of the school building is decorated with unusual opulence: crystal chandeliers hanging everywhere, red carpets, and beautiful girls in uniforms all around. But one of the school’s most prized "ornaments" is undoubtedly the Host Club: here, at their daily afternoon meetings, the most handsome, charming, and charismatic boys use their natural hosting skills to entertain the girls—who are, of course, just as beautiful and wealthy—in exchange for payment. Their primary goal is to bring happiness to the hearts of the girls. The school employs the best teachers and tutors in the country, and the curriculum is structured to avoid, as much as possible, unnecessarily overburdening the wealthy students with homework. With this one less worry, they find themselves with plenty of free time, which they seek to spend for their own exclusive enjoyment. The club members are all students belonging to the school’s highest social class, both in terms of family lineage and personal intelligence. Each host embodies and represents a typical character archetype from the shoujo genre and has his own personal nickname: the Prince, the Wild One, the Little Devils, the Loli-Shota, etc.—all of this specifically designed to best satisfy the varied tastes of the female customers. One day, the protagonist of this story accidentally breaks an extremely expensive vase belonging to the famous Host Club and is subsequently used as the main "attraction," forced to work as an entertainer alongside the other members until her debt is paid off.
