Awesome, awesome—I’ve been waiting for this. I’ve already read several reviews, and since I’m a fan of *Dakeritai Otoko* (the Boys Love series it’s based on), which also has an anime, I couldn’t pass this up. By the way, I’m in the process of getting the complete manga series—the 9 volumes released so far—and I’m waiting to scrape together the money…In the meantime, I’m enjoying this—thanks!
Rating: 9 I haven’t read the manga, and I’d be curious to do so—just to see if the series changed anything. One thing I know they didn’t change: the angel wings that occasionally appear behind Jin or Jun’s back. The story is unlike any other; even if just for a split second, I feared a flashback that would take us back to Akin’s high school days when he met Jin/Jun. The story touches on important themes such as violence, stalking, toxic fans, and the intrusiveness of the press. Important themes that, in the end, should teach the viewer something, but I’m not so sure the message got through. Themes that are addressed in various BL works, but I don’t know if the actors, during interviews, have seriously spoken out about the problems they face with a certain type of press and with intrusive and toxic fans. Maybe they did, but I haven’t found anything about it, so if you want to address an unpleasant situation, why cover it for just a few seconds and then move on to the love story? I’m also certain—though I hope I’m wrong—that the press would never ask them questions like, "Have you also experienced this kind of pressure?" "Have you guys been stalked, too?" "How did that make you feel…?" In the end, the important messages always take a back seat to appease hormonal fans. Getting back to the series, I found Akin’s character cold, whiny, and lonely. Jin/Jun was kind of like a breath of fresh air for him, even though at first he was a bit of a weird fan. I’m not talking about the honey—I don’t even want to think about it—but anyway, I’ll count it among those normal things that turn into something steamy in a BL story. One thing isn’t clear to me—actually, two. First, how can someone who’s passed out stay seated on a moving motorcycle? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to call a taxi? Second, the grandmother gave her grandson the script—why didn’t she also leave him the rights? After all, she came from the same world too! The way it ended suggests there will be a second season. As I wrote at the beginning, I haven’t read the manga and don’t know if there’s a sequel there, but there’s one thing I hope for: that Sigma fails. Thanks for this project.
