Overview:
Set during the Joseon period, when the people faced severe hardships due to the Qing invasion (from 3 January 1637 to 24 February 1637). Against this backdrop, a love story blossoms.
Lee Jang Hyun (Namkoong Min) is a mysterious man who suddenly appears in high society circles. He appears to be a cheerful person, but in reality he is not. He is a complex individual with a deep, dark secret that he cannot reveal to anyone. A woman named Yoo Kil Chae (Ahn Eun Jin) appears before him, and his life is turned upside down. Yoo Kil Chae is the daughter of a noble family. She is a lovely woman, full of confidence. Whilst experiencing the upheaval caused by the Qing invasion, she falls in love with Lee Jang Hyun and grows as a person.

Personal opinion: I haven’t seen a sageuk with real historical references and such a gripping plot since *Red Sleeve*. The lead actors can cut you in two with just a glance… the chemistry is off the charts!???

I didn’t think a historical drama would grip me so much… so far, it’s the best of those I’ve seen
Intrigued by so many rave reviews, I started watching this drama. At first, I was actually on the verge of giving up on it – her character was too frivolous and superficial – but I persevered and I don’t regret it. The story is fantastic and his performance is of the very highest standard; I’ve completely changed my mind about it – so much so that it’s now made it into my top 10 favourite dramas.
A wonderful drama… he… stunning… magnetic eyes… absolutely brilliant… and she… well done, well done… a story that starts off like *Gone with the Wind*…but it just grabs you… you fall in love with it… it loses its way a bit when they dwell too much on the historical narrative… and in the ending, where it’s not clear how much time has passed… but it’s one of my top dramas… so much so that I’ve been searching for all the dramas he’s starred in just to watch them again!!
