This is a lakorn that speaks to young people and offers a clear critique of a society that fails to look after them.

The first few episodes didn’t really grab me, but then it builds up – partly because there’s a considerable amount of symbolic exploration behind it involving numerology, or so it seems to me. There are 13 students; in karma, this is the number representing rebirth, which occurs through trials aided by mentors. In order to change, the young people must confront their traumas: emotional neglect, physical and psychological abuse, the need to excel, and an inability to express their feelings – all caused by a lack of love and attention from their parents. 3 is the number of years they are meant to spend there; it is the number linked to intellectual development and represents the union (like the Trinity) of the elements that lead to wholeness. There are also three children whom the teacher tries to separate towards the end, because by combining their abilities they would solve the challenge by complementing one another, and he – who represents hatred – does not want to allow this. There are seven teachers, and seven is also the number representing wisdom. There are 5 parents present at the games, and this is the number associated with communication: by giving free rein to emotions, one can change the world; the five-pointed star, depending on how you turn it, can be positive or negative. This tells us, then, that a parent’s teachings influence their child’s actions. 9 is the number of minutes the teacher gives the parents to escape. The meaning of this number is to use everything one has learnt to improve oneself and pass it on to others; it represents the breast that nourishes and thus gives life. Prasath wants to close the cycle: if the parents understand their faults, they will be forgiven; otherwise, they will be punished. The hope for change within the school rests with Run – whose name in English means ‘run’, that is, putting one foot in front of the other – so to grow, one needs the drive to break free from one’s limitations. He is the youngest of the teachers; thus, it is the children who represent HOPE – for, having been raised with love by their parents and supported by their friends, they will change the world.

@Paolachira @paolachira Thank you for your detailed analysis! <br />There’s one thing I don’t entirely agree with: [spoiler title="When you say that Prasath would have granted forgiveness to the parents if they’d realised their mistakes, in my view this would never have happened because, in reality, his intentions weren’t noble; he didn’t want peace for the boys but merely sought revenge against a wealthy social class. In fact, I believe that even if the parents had been model parents, he would still have tried to push the boys into killing them in order to pursue his real aim: the simple but repulsive desire to see blood."]
