Whilst on a reporting assignment in a turbulent Eastern country, Song Ran, a reporter for Liang’s satellite TV channel, finds herself in danger. Fortunately, she is rescued by Li Zan, a Chinese engineer specialising in explosives who is volunteering in that very area. Li Zan’s kindness and pure spirit make a deep impression on Song Ran. As they spend time together, Li Zan also discovers that, despite her fragile appearance, Song Ran is in fact brave and strong, with a heart full of justice and kindness. With shared ideals and kindred spirits, a spark of love ignites between them. However, a sudden bomb attack abruptly severs their budding relationship. Back in China, they both go through a difficult period and even end up losing touch. Li Zan is tormented by guilt over the death of his friend, who sacrificed himself to save him during the attack, whilst Song Ran finds herself at the centre of a controversy because of a photograph taken at that very moment. By chance, they meet again and, gradually, their lives return to normal. Together, they plant the seeds of the white olive tree.
