It is the year 2000 and Ki Ha Myung (Lee Jong Suk) is living happily with his parents and his brother Jae Myung, until his father, Ki Ho Sang, a fire chief, dies in a factory explosion. However, his body is never found, and so all the victims’ relatives and the media accuse him of having fled and left all his men at the mercy of the flames, turning against his family. One famous journalist in particular, Song Cha Ok, begins to spread false reports, heedless of the weight of her words – words that will ultimately destroy a family. Ha Myung’s mother, in fact, commits suicide by throwing herself into the sea, taking her son with her. Ha Myung, however, is found in the water by a man, Choi Gong Pil – In Ha’s (Park Shin Hye) grandfather – and this is how the two meet. The dear old grandfather, who clearly suffers from a mild mental disorder, believes that the little boy is his son Dal Po, who died 30 years ago. And that is why he adopts him, and the boy pretends to be Choi Dal Po, thus becoming In Ha’s uncle! In Ha suffers from ‘Pinocchio syndrome’: every time she tells a lie, she gets the hiccups, and this problem greatly affects her daily life. Once at secondary school, Dal Po and In Ha have to decide what they want to be when they grow up… In Ha isn’t quite sure what sort of job she’ll be able to do in the future, given her condition, but then she has a brainwave: since she’s forced to always tell the truth, she’ll follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a journalist – a reporter whose stories will always and only be based on the truth! She therefore decides to apply to the MSC television station, and it is her mother – whom she hasn’t seen for years – who interviews her and tells her that, given her condition, she will never become a journalist. Dal Po therefore decides to help her in her endeavour and to become a journalist alongside her. During an interview, they meet two other aspiring journalists, Seo Bum Jo (Kim Young Kwang) and Yoon Yoo Rae (Lee Yoo Bi), and their adventure begins...
